TELL US: What Are Your Thoughts on Fire Safety in Chelmsford?
From the new fire station to this weekend's fire, what are your thoughts when it comes to fires here in town?
Between several fires this week to other ongoing fire related topics like the Planning Board's site plan review of the new Fire Department headquarters on Jan. 23, fire is a big topic in town these days.
So today, we wanted to ask you: what are your thoughts on fire safety here in Chelmsford? Are people in town prepared for a big fire? Is the fire department doing a good job?
Sprinklers are mandated for buildings larger than 7,500 square feet, but would requiring them in smaller buildings make a difference or be a economic hardship?
What about your thoughts on the effectiveness of smoke detectors and other warning or prevention devices as well as educational efforts like the open house at the North Road Fire Station a few months ago? (pictured)
It's a big and continuing topic, so share your views with us in the comments.
Chelmsford Patch will be contacting local and state officials today to obtain more information on the Woodcrest Condominimum fire on late Saturday and early Sunday.

Carmen ... the Treasure Shop at the Senior Center accepts not only clothing and toiletries for resale (very reasonably priced, I might add) but all sorts of household items, as long as it is all in decent condition. Is this what you are referring to?

Hi Anna,
The information I posted above, about where to make donations, is specifically for the Woodcrest Fire Relief Effort. There is a Facebook page with that title - Woodcrest Fire Relief Effort - that I hope everyone joins, so they can keep up to date on ways to hlep those directly affected by this tragic fire.

This is an update of my post as shown above. There is no need for additional clothing at this time, thanks to the tremendous response from the residents of Chelmsford.
Gift cards are still needed and they should be dropped off at only ONE location now, and that is at the Center Fire Station on North Road.
An account has been created by Enterprise Bank for those who wish to make a monetary donation to the fire victims. All money donated will go to the fire victims in an effort to help get them back on their feet.
Checks can be made out to:
Woodcrest Fire Relief Fund
and can be sent to
Enterprise Bank
185 Littleton Road
Chelmsford, MA 01824
Thank you very much for any help you can provide.
