Tell Us: Does McDonald's Calorie Announcement Change Your Mind?

McDonald's will post calorie information starting Monday.

Is ignorance really bliss?

McDonald's restaurants in the U.S. will soon get a new menu addition: The number of calories in the chain's burgers and fries, according to the Huffington Post.

The world's biggest hamburger chain said Wednesday that it will post calorie information on restaurant and drive-thru menus nationwide starting Monday.

The move comes ahead of a regulation that could require major chains to post the information as early as next year.

"We want to voluntarily do this," said Jan Fields, president of McDonald's USA. "We believe it will help educate customers."

So we want to know: Will the calorie content postings change what you order? Will it make you more likely to stop at McDonalds?

Adding the number of calories to a menu items at McDonald's is like putting lipstick on a pig.

I think there should be a poll of 'people in the street' asking for the definition of 'calorie'. That will give a realistic idea of the difference that would even be possible.

No change for us. Once a week I take by boy (disabled, 47 yr. old) for his happy meal and I have no fear or care about calorie count ... it just gives me pleasure to see his eyes light up as he enjoys his one hamburger, small fries and apple slices, and 1 lo-fat chocolate milk. I have no idea what the calorie count is and would not take this small joy away from him for anything in the world. However, it's probably a nice idea but I honestly don't think it will change peoples' habits, heartburn or not!

Thank you for sharing your story with us Anna. I think it's great that you keep your sons eye lit up with these small joys of life. I hope you keep this family tradition up for many years to come.

I think the majority have long been aware of the approx calorie. I dont know why people want to fall back and blame ignorance for any problems that are really due to a number of other factors. It's like smoking, people have long known it will slowly kill you but many people who know that still start and dont quit until they start to see the ill effects of it. Lack of education is not the problem.

Let them force the calorie count and then leave these fast food place alone. Oddly enough I do think it will make a difference but it will be among the "once in a while" patrons who already dont visit McDonald's because often because they know the food is unhealthy. The obesity problem correlates heavily to poverty and the capitalist nature of food production in this country. There is also a correlation between class and McDonald's visit frequency.

Overall your not informing the people who will alter anything because of it of something they didn't already know. To the lower class it's a quick cheap meal and just like a cigarette, "it's little consequence now, ill quit later."

Personally I find McD's food disgusting, but burger kind or Wendy's, calorie posts or not I'll still continue to visit in moderation

I liked old Happy Meal when one could choose either apples or french fries and caramel sauce. The calories of food were displayed and I figured out that Happy Meal with hamburger with mustard and pickles only was within my diet-restrictions.
Trying eating in an ethnic restaurant with cheese allergy. I ask restaurant manager for plain spaghetti and he told me that it only comes with mixed tomato sauce (with cheese.) Not one dish (even seafood) was without cheese. I excuse myself from the party and went to another place. I rejoin the group later on that night. Taco meat you can't tell what in it especially at fast food. So I will continue eating McDonald's for Happy Meal skip fries or Angus snack wrap occassionally.

We noticed the change in the signage at McDonald but I must say we (the kids) were more interested to see if the prices had changed than the calorie counts. Mickey D's is not the place for those who are calorie conscience nor are the offerings at most of the "fast food" places.....Truth Be Told.

$1 Coffee draws me to go through McD's drive-up window. Sorry to gourmet coffee shops! Even though my friends owns a few Dunkin Donuts, I still can't stomach their coffee, I rather go without. These kids except for Mr. "C" have Nutrition classes in school and I hope that they learned to budget their money. Who's responsibility? School..home...commonsense. Our local grocery stores offer "Food Smart" classes. Many kids are eating the salads at McD's.

Not to get too far off track but Dunkins is mystery to me. The donuts are ok, everything else they offer is not that good IMO. I was born and raised in New England, southern NH-Northern MA specifically. Never lived anywhere else, only left for a couple vacations. I hate the Yankees and the Lakers all that, but DD's is a New England tradition that I just don't get.

Back on track, McDonalds has much better coffee than Dunkins IMO, hot or iced

Calorie counts won't change how I eat-at one of my jobs there's a McDonald's to the left, and a Wendy's to the right, two chinese restaurants in front, and a sub shop behind. DD's is down the street, 1/2 block-LOL. Many times I get a 99 cent wendy's burger, and 99 cent Mickey D's coffee, and I'm set for the night.

I sometimes go to Donelan's (Acton) and have 4oz. poached salmon and 4 oz. cucumber, red pepper and dill salad (mixed with vinegar). It's a nice place to have lunch and you don't have stressed over street construction.
