Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on.
American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in Chelmsford.
Last year, 100 million people nationwide participated in Small Business Saturday by shopping at locally owned stores to help boost the economy and their communities.

I agree that shopping local is a great idea, but I have to question how American Express put together their list. For example, the list (which is on the AmEx website, not that Facebook page, by the way) includes at least two small businesses in North Chelmsford that (1) supply "business to business" services - that is, their customer base isn't "neighbors", and (2) aren't open on Saturdays anyway. :-)

local small businesses are the first to make a donation to, or pay for a small ad, or post notices for local charities. And those local charities support so many in need, an all are grateful. Let's support our local small businesses.
