Murray Not Running For Governor; Who Should Run?

Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Murray will not run for governor in 2014, citing the demands of campaigning, serving in elected office and his desire to spend more time with his wife and two young daughters, reported his hometown newspaper the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester.

“It's something I have been thinking about for some time,” Murray said of the decision, which he said came after sitting down to talk it through with his wife, Tammy, and key supporters since the Christmas holidays.

Murray, who was mayor of the City of Worcester, told the Telegram & Gazette the demands of running a campaign and serving in office can require 15- and 16-hour days, six and seven days a week and would leave him little time to be with his family.

Framingham Democrats held a fundraiser for Murray in November in the hope that he would be a candidate for governor in 2014.

With Murray not in the race, who do you think should run for Governor?

IN my Opinion,Scott Brown. He has the experience in this State one party politics to help solve the problems of this one track party rule that tosses out any attemps to solve its problems by the opposing party. Its time the Legislators took action other than TAX AND SPEND etc...

There are a whole series of Democrat legislators and mayors , too numerous to name that would qualify for Governor that can work with the cities and towns , provide policy and fiscal, government partnership, leadership. A Democrat governor would bring more grants, funding and cooperation from our Democrat President Obama. Something a Brown would be ill-equipped to do. Brown is overrated, has practically no fiscal experience and was mediocre and did not even stand out when a State Senator. A Republican would engage in the same type gridlock that appears in the US Congress. Nothing would get done . We don't need that. We need someone that would carry on the great traditions and leadership that Gov. Patrick embraces, creative leadership and a willingness to get things done, not stand in the way and take endless time to check the polls before he even talks .

Nice to know you approve of the current legislation tax and spend policys of spending more than you have and then run amuck to repair what you have because of total lack of foresight. If you ran your household like the Mass Government you'd be out in the street or foreclosed and expect the government to bail you out for free.Taxachussetts got its name with followers of this practice.

The question of the hour is not who should the Dems run, - but WHO scared Tiny Tim off – and how?

Somebody out there has the goods on him. I wonder ~ could it be ~ Marsha?

I'm with you Murial, Scott Brown would be my candidate of choice for all the reasons you stipulate. Enough with a Dem as Gov., costs us all way too much for way too long and it never ends, witness Patrick's state of the Commonwealth where he proposed further taxes for all sorts of reasons. Thing I can't figure is how he justifies lowering sales tax while raising payroll tax ... simple if you look at it in it's simple way. Folks who work pay, those on the dole don't and get the added bonus of not having to pay as much for purchases. Go figure the thinking ... I can't.

And yes, Iron Mike, I think someone has the dirty on him too.

Infrastructure and transportation need to be improved, especially rail transportation in MA. It facilitates commerce and employment.
You know, grow the economy. 1% increase in income taxes and 1% reduction in sales taxes, is an excellent idea. Retail sales prosper and the top pay an insignificant amount. Retirees are not effected. They can still sit back and complain about government and taxes the way they usually do.
Gov. Patrick is being pro-active and initiating pro-business policies.
All for it. That is how I figure it.
