Local Man Starts Environmental Consulting Business After Layoff
Jonathan Moore is passionate about the environment and helping people clean up hazardous materials.
Welcome to Business Owner of the Week, a weekly column where we get to know a local business owner a little better. Are you a business owner who would like to be featured in this column? E-mail krista@patch.com. This week we're catching up with Jonathan Moore of Omni Environmental Group. Their office is located on Fletcher Street.
Q: Describe your business for those unfamiliar.
A: Omni Environmental Group helps people find out whether the soil, water or air on their property is contaminated with oil or hazardous materials and, if it is, we help people figure out the best way to clean it up.
We also help people who have a sudden spill of oil or hazardous materials. This includes homeowners who have a fuel oil tank that leaks and spill oil into their yard or into their basement. This actually happens more than you would think.
Q: Why and when did you start your business?
A: In 2003, I got laid off from a larger company which provided similar services. I wanted to be in control of my own destiny so I started my own consulting practice. I had a few clients who came along with me and I’ve been going strong ever since.
Q: How would you describe the atmosphere of Omni Environmental?
A: It can be challenging. When people come to us, they usually have an expensive problem that they would rather not deal with. We have to be patient and understanding and really reassure clients that it all works out in the end - which it really does.
Q: What do you like about doing business in Chelmsford?
A: We do work all over eastern and central Massachusetts as well as southern New Hampshire. Being at the junction of 495 and Route 3, we can easily get to all these areas. I live in Chelmsford as well so there’s a whole lot of things I like about Chelmsford!
Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: I get to meet a lot of different people, see a lot of different properties, and visit a lot of different cities and towns which keeps work interesting.
Q: What would you say to, or any advice would you give, to any potential clients?
A: Manage your oil and hazardous materials carefully and keep your property clean. If you need advice about how to keep it clean, get in touch with me. If you can’t keep it clean, then definitely get in touch with me.
