Dear Editor,
There are many elections on November 6, 2012 but none is more important to Chelmsford than the open seat in our district for Massachusetts State Senate. I am supporting Mike Barrett and I encourage everyone to do likewise. We need strong experienced leadership in the State Senate.
For the past 17 years, Mike has worked in the private sector as an expert on healthcare, life sciences and information technology. Prior to that Mike was an experienced public servant and leader where he served 8 years in the State Senate and 6 years in the House. In the early 1990’s I found Mike as a State Senator to be most helpful and knowledgeable when I was a biotechnology executive in Cambridge. Our State Senate needs first-hand knowledge of information technology, the Internet, and private sector healthcare expertise as these are the future growth areas of our economy Mike’s experience will be invaluable not only to Chelmsford but to the State Senate itself.
Mike is a leader. As president of his incoming class of freshman state representatives he used his heightened profile to put the majority of House freshmen on record in favor of opening up debate and decreasing the power of the House Speaker. In the Senate, he was lead sponsor of legislation affecting women’s rights, guaranteeing basic civil rights and outlawing discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Now Mike is fighting the growing influence of special interest money in politics. He’s refusing contributions from lobbyists and PAC’s .
Please join me in electing Mike Barrett to the Massachusetts State Senate on November 6.

Nicely said, David. Mike will receive my vote on Nov. 6. We need representatives who really do care about our town and its future and not just give it lip service.
