Joy Commits to Boston College

The CHS linebacker accepted his scholarship offer to play football for the Boston College Eagles on Friday.

 

Tim Joy Commits to Boston College

Chelmsford High School football star Tim Joy '12 committed to the Boston College Eagles on Friday night. The returning captain and All-Merrimack Valley standout ended his recuitment after picking up the offer from the Eagles on Friday.

Joy collected 131 tackles, three interceptions and had two sacks last season. He fulfilled a lifelong dream when the Eagles offered.

"It has always been my dream to be an Eagle," said Joy.

Joy has gained 15 pounds since the end of the 2010 season and is up to 215 lbs to add on his 6-foot-2 frame.

Girls Lacrosse: Johannah Cramer, Kelly Pickett, Meaghan Tuttle.

Thistle Wins Second Straight NH State Lax Championship

Bishop Guertin senior attack Matt Thistle of Chelmsford won his second straight Division 1 New Hampshire lacrosse championship this season.

The Chelmsford native spent three years at BG after transferring from Chelmsford High School following his freshman year. Thistle was also named one of 10 All-American in the state of New Hampshire along with teammates Bob Fahey (Westford) and Erik Kelly (Tewksbury).

Thistle will attend Manhattan College next year where he will continue his lacrosse career.

Northeast League Baseball

Chelmsford (4-2) defeated Woburn 2-0 behind a strong winning pitching performance from Andrew Knightly. Mitch Mangahas picked up the save. Tommy Bishop, Ryan Scarfo, and Connor Barry each lead Chelmsford at the plate with strong games.

Chelmsford is currently in first place in the North Division with upcoming games on Monday night (at home vs. Burlington) and Tuesday night (away vs. Dracut). Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m.

Chelmsford Youth Baseball

In addition to the 12 year old state tournament CYB is hosting additional tournaments this summer.

Fourth of July Weekend Sports Events: Home Run Derby

The 2nd Annual Summer Classic and Home Run Derby will take place on Saturday July 2 from 10 a.m - 2 p.m. at the 110 baseball fields in Chelmsford.

  • Cheer on your favorite kid at the Home Run Derby Competition
  • Awards will be given to the top scorers in each age division at the end of the day.
  • Check out your pitching speed at our “Whip it” stand . 5 pitches – try to guess the last pitch and win a prize.
  • Dunk your favorite Coach in our “Soak the Coach” Dunk Tank.
  • Have fun playing one of our games (Chicken Chuckin’, penny drop, toilet paper toss, plus many more) and win a prize!
  • Grab a Burger or Dog from our Grill at the Snack Shack!
  • Listen to  live music while getting your face painted, and don’t forget to visit our kissing booth!

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.  Registration forms can be downloaded at chelmsfordyouthbaseball.org or pick up at time of registration.

Fourth of July Weekend Sports Events: John Carson July 4 Road Race

  • Where: Hannaford, 66 Drum Hill Rd, Chelmsford, MA 01824
  • Date: July 4, 2011
  • Time: 7:30am
  • Registration runs from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Parkhurst Road behind Hannaford Supermarket.

    The course is two miles. It starts on Parkhurst Road (behind Hannaford Supermarket), goes up Parkhurst, then left onto North Road, and straight to Chelmsford Center, just past the Old Town Hall.

    No pets or rollerblading.

    Chelmsford's Fourth of July parade immediately follows the race.
