John Kerry’s Confirmation Hearing Scheduled for Jan. 24
A special election would be held 145 to 160 days after confirmation.
Sen. John Kerry’s confirmation hearing to become the next Secretary of State will take place on Jan. 24, according to Fox25.
No opposition is expected to Kerry’s nomination.
If he is named to the new post, a special election will be held 145 to 160 days after the confirmation and an interim senator will be named to serve until the election.
The front runner to replace Kerry is Congressman Edward Markey. A number of Democratic leaders have already voiced their support of Markey.
Congressman Michael Capuano announced earlier this week that he will not run for the seat and Congressman Stephen Lynch is still mulling the possibility.
On the Republican side, former Sen. Scott Brown has not announced whether he is going to run.

You weren't paying attention during 2004 Roger, - the Swift Vets for Truth spilled the goods on Lurch – with documented proof – including his bad FitReps [service evaluations].
He was in RVN from 17 Nov 68 until he REQUESTED EARLY RETURN [3 Purple Hearts – no blood] in March – and departed around 1 April 1969.
He is a total phony. NOBODY took an 8mm movie camera to Vietnam – except War Hero Kerry. No commander would have requested transfer home – leaving his crew in less experienced – or even newbie hands – except Coward Kerry.
His medals are in great controversy. The guy who approved his SS – Wade Sanders – had his own SS plucked in 2011.
Per SecNav Ray Mabus: “…had the subsequently determined facts and evidence surrounding both the incident for which the award was made and the processing of the award itself been known to the Secretary of the Navy in 1992, those facts would have prevented the award of the Silver Star”
Kerry's sworn congressional testimony - about having memories seered in his brain about spending Christmas in Cambodia - was pure fabrication – a war-story lie – and real vets have been ragging him about it ever since.
Kerry will be SecState, - he'll run for Prez again in 2016 or 2020.

Roger: Nearly all of Lt. John Kerry’s former Swift Boat crew mates, have stated that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ‘s allegations are FALSE. The true reason behind the Swift Boat campaign was Kerry’s post-Vietnam anti-war activity which they disdained.
No one went after George W Bush for going AWOL in the Texas National Guard during Vietnam War and getting in with his father pulling strings to avoid Vietnam combat duty, then getting out early to go Harvard , a C student with legacy connections.
Expect the same ignorance from bloggers here about Ed Markey when he announces. That is what they do best. Trash anything Democrat.

I honestly had never heard about your assertions before Mike and they did raise concerns for me. Unfortunately I couldn't verify them without citations. So I went to Snopes.com, a reliable source on urban legends, read in to it what you like...

My view is if you serve in the military, whether you volunteer or not, you get a free-pass from me and can speak your mind on your views of the war you fought in. I do not believe in the "My country right or wrong" philosophy. Surely you of all people, Mike, would agree with me. But anyone, ex-service member or civilian, who questions the awarding a Purple Heart to a soldier questions the integrity of ALL Purple Heart recipients.
I take extremist views, from either left-wingnut or right-wingnut, with a grain of salt as I've found they have their own spin agendas also.

And for the record, Mike, I was quite aware of the Swift Boat Veterans political group that was active in the 2004 campaign. I knew that their members only included one of Kerry's crewmates and his opinion of Kerry was very unfavorable. I was also aware that 3 other of Kerry's crewmates had opposite opinions of him.
Like all political groups the Swift Boat veterans had their agenda and presented only the information that supported their opinions and agenda, which is their right, but was disingenuous nonetheless. You can read more from both sides here...
