Jazzercise Encourages Healthy Living

Jazzercise owners Anna Bayramshian and Karen Loycano have been in business together for 18 years and say they love watching their clients change their lives.

1. Why did you decide to open Jazzercise? 

Anna: Karen and I met in 1994 when she was subbing a Jazzercise class in Newton and I was there, training to become an instructor, taking a class. We hit it off and became fast friends. We were out to dinner one night, after a class, discussing how fun it would be to have our own center one day. I think she felt it was a pipe dream and I locked onto that with laser-like focus...and here we are 18 years later! We opened officially in September of 1995 at a church in Westford, then moved to a dance studio (both sublets) in Westford and in 1997 we moved into our current space, all on our own! We had a five-year plan and accomplished our goal in two!


2. What kind of positive experiences have you had as a business owner in Chelmsford?

Anna: The positive experiences we have shared with each other, our clients and staff are so many, it's hard to choose just a few. It's so gratifying to find a best friend (in adulthood) and then go into business with them...and have it last almost 20 years! We have built our business from nothing to six classes a week in a church together to 32 classes a week in our facility with 12 instructors working for us.

Each of our instructors is a unique, special piece of the puzzle we've put together as our successful business. We are one of the largest Jazzercise Centers on the Eastern seaboard and very proud of our top honors within Jazzercise Inc. We have watched so many clients grow and change; from young Moms getting themselves in shape to ladies whose children have grown up and it's time for them to take time for them. We've watched ladies who have come in, after a long illness, who have been able to do things they never imagined as they become fit and healthy again right before our eyes.We are living our dream. We literally wished to open our own center so we could share Jazzercise with everyone and do it "our way" (making customer service #1) and we did it. We are so lucky and we know it. We could not do it without our wonderful staff and, of course, our clients who come and dance with us and bring their friends/family!

3. What is your favorite class to teach at Jazzercise?

Anna: We love all our class formats so choosing one is impossible! What's better than being able to dance for fitness (with the ORIGINAL dance fitness program) with all your friends? Nothing I say!

4. What advice would you give to any new Jazzercise clients?

Anna: For anyone who may be contemplating trying Jazzercise: come on down! You'll find a welcoming, encouraging group, knowledgeable, certified instructors and fun! You can come and try and week free and find out that "we're not your Mother's Jazzercise anymore"!!! You'll get a total body workout, whatever your fitness level and dance your way into a more healthy life!
