Got Power? Let Us Know

Write in the comments section if your power has been restored recently or if you are still without power.

More than 48 hours after the October snowstorm hit the area and knocked out power to 80% of Chelmsford, National Grid and crews from around the country continue working to restore power.

There has been progress over the past two days. Parts of East Chelmsford got power back Monday afternoon, but there are still thousands without power in town.

National Grid hopes to restore power to more homes on Tuesday and Wednesday and restore the whole town on Thursday.

So, let us know. Has your power been restored recently? Are you still without power? Let us know and tell us where you are located.

Sometimes it is hard to understand how the larger plan is laid out in situations like this. If they do not fix the sidewalks and someone falls down, gets hurt, sues the Town then everyone would be up in arms the sidewalk was left damaged. There is a larger plan on how they are getting the job done with getting electricity back on. It is an inconvenience we are without electricity, unlike those in Vermont after the recent floods, we have a home to go back to once the electricity comes back on. I am staying with family in Medford so am making quite the hike to work and monitoring the situation. I also work at a hotel so see first hand the inconvenience everyone is experiencing. Voice concerns at the next Town Meeting, write the Utility Companies and maybe even get the ear of a local government official to introduce fines on the Utility companies to have a plan in place prior to a storm instead of after the storm. In the meantime, we need to keep each other posted and be grateful we are heading home.

If there was a larger plan in place, i'm sure it would consist of keeping the trees trimmed so they would not hang over the streets and power lines to prevent the wide spread damage we have seen. If there were a larger plan in place they would be removing the trees from the road so no one would get into an accident and sue the town, so Kathleen, as you can see there is no larger plan....yes having no electricty is an inconvenience, but one that if we had a larger plan could have been prevented.

Refreshing to hear someone who's not just bitchin' & moanin'. I slept in a 50 degree house last night, cuddled with the dog and reading by candlelight. That's 10 degrees warmer than it was on my last camping trip. I still have a house, nobody in town got hurt, and neighbors are extra friendly. I can think of so many situations where life has dealt people much worse than this 'inconvenience' of a power outage.

Larger plan should be that trees and wires down with children at home is more unsafe than a sidewalk that can be taped off or blocked from use. Not trying to be mean but safety is an issue and is why priorities need to be adhered to of greater importances.

Where is FEMA? No State or Federal assistance? We are in a state of emergency!
There is too much damage to expect National Grid to have power restored in a few hours...the state needs government assistance. What are town officials doing about this issue?

No Power Acton Rd (RT27) all the way to Carlisle, Byam Vilage, Parkerville Rd all the way to Westford and none in directions of Robin Hill, Maple, Garrison etc. - Day four. No local shelters for those in need. The towns people need to demand a better plan for emergencies regardless of what Officials say. It obviously is not good enough as it stands for humanity and or safety.

I find that you can get a better zoom in on the National Grid outage map if you go in from this secure login, entering your address. I went from the main site yesterday and got the impression Westlands power would be restored at 8 pm last night, becuase I couldn't zoom in far enough and clicked the wrong light-bulb icon. Today I tried this link and saw that it had actually never changed from the original estimate of tomorrow night around 11 pm.

No power on what we affectionately call "planet McIntosh". Courtland and McIntosh look exactly as they did Sunday morning. I applaud the work that the line crews are doing but the management decision to maintain only skeleton crews and bring crews in from out of state each time we have an emergency - not so much. Perhaps a new name for our utility company should be Not-On-The Grid.

Maggie - I agree. I've called T-Mobile and got someone who basically kept giving me excuses. I have sent an e-mail to our Town Manager, Police and Fire saying that they should have notified the town of this outage where so many rely on their cell for emergency purposes. They are supposed to have emergency power so I am no longer patient. I intend to see if we can strengthen our by-laws to require carriers to have emergency backup and notification of public safety officials if a tower is out of service.
(I am also switching to another carrier when my contract is up next week!)

I am on Chestnut Hill Road and just chased down a repair man from Michigan in a pick up truck who drove 66 hours and got here an hour ago. He is going house to house & inspecting from the top of Chestnut Hill Road all the way down to where it turns into Galloway. This particular road is his only responsibility I was told. The grid this road is on is actually just over the Westford line and they are working on that main line. As long as everything is fine (no individual connections/repairs needed; which I know is not the case) they can power the road back up when the main line in Westford is repaired. If a house has to be connected back to the road the entire road has to wait to be connected. Best guestimate he could give was late Thursday night, just what the NG site says.

Canter and Thomas have had the trees cleared but those roads look destroyed with wires torn from the houses and in the road. The end of Amble is still blocked. There are trucks working on Prancing and Hitchinpost I was told.

We have power and Comcast services (TV, phone, internet) on Cranberry Lane in South Chelmsford as of approximately 11:30 AM 11/3. NG beat their estimated restoration time by over 8 hours.

Have our power back on around 12:15pm today. Hope the whole town recovered soon.

Mill Rd and area power came back on about 8PM last night. Huge thanks to the town & National Grid. We figured the running of the generator Saturday from 8PM to Wednesday about 8pm the cost was better than $300.00, but worth every penny. I feel fortunate that I could provide dinner & coffee to all that stopped by.
