Five Things To Look For in This Election

Here are some things to keep in mind while you're at the polls.

The town's first ever recall election is today, to see if the town will vote to recall four selectmen or keep them in their offices.

Here are four things to look out for today at the polls.

1. Turn out. How many people will this election draw to the polls? The summer is a difficult time to get people out to vote, but people on both sides of the issue are passionate about it. In April, during the regular municipal election, about 18 percent of voters turned out. Do you think it will be a close race, or do you think one side will clearly send a message to the other?

2. The faces behind the signs. Who is holding signs for each side of the issue? Who will be visible on election day? If you have questions, don't be afraid to engage sign-holders in conversation about the issues.

3. Your sample ballot. We posted for you along with all the information you need to know about voting today. So just get out there and vote.

4. Any election day surprises. Notice whether or not the voting machine properly takes your ballot, if sign holders are standing too close to polling locations or if there are any people wearing buttons or stickers while they're voting, which is not allowed. Expect the unexpected and look out for any crises or surprises that may occur, and let us know about them.

5. Patch. It kind of goes without saying, but stay tuned to Patch all day today for the latest at the polls. And if you have any bits of detail from the polls - like how many people are voting or what you saw - share it with us! E-mail Krista@patch.com or post to our Facebook wall.
