the beetle is called the red lily leaf beetle. I've been dealing with them for years. pick them off when you see them and kill them. they lay eggs in their excrement on the plant and when the lava emerge they eat the lily. I haven't had a lily bloom in my yard in years. to get them off the plant, gently tip the plant stem and catch them in your other gloved hand - they will drop into your hand. then kill them, put them in a tub of soapy water or step on them but they are tricky and good at getting away. good luck!

Here is a slight remedy ... I use systemic granules around the base of the plants when the green just emerges in early spring, then keep a watchful eye, continue weekly spraying the plant with Neem, and the ground around them. I am not happy to use the granules since this goes against my organic gardening methods, but it really is the only way I've found to combat them. I do occasionally see a few beetles which I pick off and murder and there is a bit of chewing on the leaves of my lilies but not too bad and I do have beautiful blooms. The beetles are stubbornly able to escape when you try picking them off, but keep at it if you see them. The trick, I think is to be early with your treatment and vigilantly keep a watchful eye, adding more treatment as needed. Good luck i right ... but it really takes due diligence.
