Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Chelmsford Being Investigated

Still unclear why the man was walking on I-495.

 

More details are available now about the fatal early Thursday morning crash in Chelmsford involving two men in their 50s, both from out-of-state.

Massachusetts State Police say they received a call from a motorist reporting that a pedestrian had been hit by a truck on Route 495 northbound, at Exit 34, in Chelmsford. The victim was dead when state troopers arrived on-scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim, a 53-year-old man from the state of Washington, was struck by a 2012 Peterbilt truck owned by Lazer Enterprises LTD of North Fargo, N.D., and operated by a 59-year-old Charlotte, N.C., man.

The facts and circumstances of the crash, including why the victim was on the highway and how he got there, remain under investigation with the help of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

Chelmsford Police Department and MassDOT (Massachusetts Department of Transportation) also helped state troopers on-scene.

The right-hand lane and the ramp to Exit 34 were closed for approximately 2.5 hours to accommodate the emergency response and crash investigation.
