A 45-year-old Chelmsford man has died after a car crash last night (Thursday) at 11:25 p.m. on Grandview Road near Locke Road, police said.

Chelmsford Police said upon arriving at the scene, they found a 2009 Volvo S-80, with a lone operator, hit a large tree head-on.

I want everyone to know, that I have called the town managers office and highway dept. several times to request trees be removed along Locke rd., Grandview rd. & Davis rd. There are dead trees standing, huge dead branches overhead and trees that line the roads making it hard for 2 cars to pass. I was first ignored then told, "your on the list!" and given no assurance that anything would be done to fix this unsafe situation. I feel so sorry this happened to that family.

Julia, I've emailed the town manager on other issues over the years and if I get a response at all, it's a defensive one. Unfortunately, it will take a tragedy like this one to spur any potential action. My heart aches for that family! He left 3 little girls! I avoid traveling that road for the reasons you mention. Very dangerous!

Was he drunk or speeding? Did he have a medical condition? Seatbelts used? Yes, it is a tradgedy and all our hearts go out to the family, but to make comments to support your agenda regarding the trees is wrong. Wait for the facts.

He was driving back from UMass Amherst after giving his daughter a tour of the college. Doubt he was drunk, but was probably very tired from that trip! My guess is he may have fallen asleep, but you're right, need to get the facts.
