Chelmsford Dominates Lawrence

Also, Eddie Sheridan is the Chelmsford Patch athlete of the week.

Chelmsford High Dominates Lancers

The CHS Lions football team moved to 3-1 on the season as they defeated the Lawrence Lancers (2-2) 42-16 on Friday night. The 42 points comes a week after the Lions only put up 14 points in a 35-14 loss to highly ranked BC High.

The win was the first Merrimack Valley Conference victory of the season for the Lions, who scored the first touchdown in the opening quarter on a  2-yard touchdown run by CHS senior tailback Eddie Sheridan.

The Lions would score three more touchdowns before halftime, highlighted by a 44-yard razzle dazzle play as the buzzer sounded as CHS quarterback Colby Emanouil would end up on the receiving end of the score.

The Lions defense stepped up throughout the game as they held the Lancers scoreless into the fourth quarter. The biggest defensive play of the game came in the second quarter when CHS junior cornerback Connor Brimley intercepted a Nathan Baez pass and took it 30-yards for a Lions touchdown.

Also playing well defensively for CHS were linebackers Tim Joy, Joey Christopher and Tony Marino, along with DL Brett Harrington.

"We fired on all cylinders tonight and got our confidence back," said Emanouil, who also had a 22-yard passing touchdown on the day to Sheridan. "Our defense was amazing tonight and we really had an answer for all the stuff they threw at us."

CHS got a fourth quarter rushing touchdown by running back Jeff D'Auria to complete the impressive offensive effort for the Lions.

The Lions have a short week of practice as they host Methuen High School on Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Lions will be looking for some revenge as Methuen defeated CHS last season in Methuen.

The Chelmsford Patch Athlete of the week this week is CHS football player Eddie Sheridan. The CHS star running back scored three touchdowns and had 128 total yards from scrimmage on the night.

"We worked hard in practice all week and came out and did what we do best," said a humble Sheridan after the game.

The senior has been the Lions' offensive catalyst all season with nine total touchdowns and almost 500 yards rushing in just four games. Sheridan had six total touchdowns last season during his junior campaign.
