Checking Out Grocery Prices With The Stop and Shop Sausage Lady

Chelmsford grocery hunt for week of Feb. 18, 2013

Last week we restarted the grocery hunt, and this week we continue with items requested by Chelmsford Patch's Facebook fans.

So, yesterday (Feb. 18), we went to Chelmsford's three supermarkets and checked out who had the lowest prices for the items requested by our readers, as well as from free samples from Jeanine the sausage lady at Stop and Shop (pictured).

All prices or availability may change without warning, prices may contain taxes or fees not indicated on labeling. Aisles are indicated by parentheses, the lowest price is indicated in bold italics.

Looks to me as though the Sausage Lady is one of those people that is hired to cook up and hand out samples of the product. I did that for a while, when my kids were young. She probably doesn't actually work for Stop and Shop.

Yup, she said she also gives out samples at Hannaford and Donelan's locations nearby. She was at Stop and Shop yesterday while I was getting the prices.

Market Basket is the ONLY place to shop. Great prices and everything you need!

Agree ... I shop at the Billerica MB, in the same plaza as Joanne Fabric ... it's a bit smaller, but far less crowded and all the same good goods, same amount of drive time from my house to and fro, plus it's clean and friendly.

(Pssst.... Andrew! You may want to double check the Kikkoman.... If Market Basket is 2 for $3, that's $1.50 each, which handily beats the other two....)

Whoops! Sorry about that, my bad. Fixing now.

And, my opinion, no fair on the oyster sauce to mix different sizes. Most of the cost of a product is in the packaging, so you can't really compare different sizes (at least not that sizes that are that disparate!).

On that one, there's nothing I can do. Not all grocery stores have the exact same items when it comes to certain things.
