5 Ways to Cool Off in Chelmsford

A look at some town cooling stations.

Temperatures could hit 100 degrees today, so be sure to keep cool. Here are some ways to cool off in Chelmsford.

1. Visit Varney Playground and take a dip in Freeman Lake Beach Located off Grant Street, the lake is a quiet place to relax and a functional place to cool off on such a hot summer day. Or, take a ride to Heart Pond and do the same.

2. Keep cool with ice cream from Gary's Ice Cream or Sully's Ice Cream

3. The town's cooling stations are the library and the Senior Center. Stop in to stay cool.

4. Stay hydrated. Grab an iced beverage at the Java Room or Starbucks

5. Take it easy. Stay indoors if at all possible today. Working out outside? Be sure to do it early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Don't forget the library! The Main Library is open Mon-Thu 9:30 AM - 9:00 PM, Fri & Sat 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM, and the MacKay Branch is open Wed 1-8 PM, Fri 10-5 PM, and Sat 10-2 PM. In addition to the air conditioner, patrons can bring their own beverages (in covered containers) and relax and cool off, enjoy a book, or use our internet access.
