Can anyone explain why this is being done on Thursday? I thought voting for state and national positions was always on Tuesday.

The primary election must be a minimum of 45 days prior to the general election which is on November 6th. (The November date is always the first Tuesday in November.) September 18th would be the logical date, except that it is the second day of Rosh Hashonah. To allow for any challenges in contested races, it was decided to have the primary early. The Thursday was chosen because it is after Labor Day when most people are back to their usual routines. Also, by putting it on Thursday, the absentee ballots would be due by noon on the Wednesday prior and not the Friday prior to a holiday weekend.

Just a heads up, Precinct 6 votes at The Westlands School, which is now the Chelmsford Community Education Center and the address is 170 Dalton Street (not 25 Maple Rd).

Hi Rebekah,

Thanks for catching that. I had it right for Precinct 4, but not 6. I'll update now.
