CHELMSFORD PLAYERS AUDITIONS

THE CHELMSFORD PLAYERS WILL BE HOLDING AUDITIONS for the upcoming fall show "Yes, My Darling Daughter" – written in 1937 by former Chelmsford resident Mark Reed.
When recent college graduate Ellen Murray decides to spend the weekend with her handsome boyfriend Douglas Hall who is on the verge of embarking on a two year job in Belgium her mother Ann Whitman Murray is outraged. This comes as a shock to Ellen since her mother is a well known writer whose feminist views reach all the way back to her Greenwich Village days when she was an advocate of free thinking and free love. Will Ellen spend the weekend with Doug? Will her Father find out? The comic plot develops as Ellen argues her case for women’s freedom and independence, all in the back drop of a Connecticut country house.

Roles:
Ellen Murray – (Daughter) early 20’s, recent college graduate, torn between being a good daughter and living life the way she wants to, free spirited and determined
Lewis Murray – (Father) mid-40s to mid-50’s, hearty, tanned, playfully blunt man who clearly loves his wife and daughter.
Constance Nevins – (Aunt) a several times divorced mid-to-late 30’s, stylish, chic, young looking woman who is affectionate and hasn’t let her embittering martial career get her down
Martha – (Maid) – older woman, Scottish accent, noiseless enters and exits a room, gives the impression that she knows everything that goes on within the house
Ann Whitman Murray – (Mother) – mid to early 40’s - her name has carried considerable prestige in the newspaper and feminist world, but in appearance Ann looks like a woman comfortable in her own skin, human, motherly and strikes one instantly as a personality and a profoundly charming woman
Titus Jaywood – (Visitor) - mid to early 40’s – Alert and charming Englishman, wears conservative business suits.
Douglas Hall – (Ellen’s boyfriend) – mid- 20’s – forceful young man, his clothes are well made but rather worn looking, determined, well mannered and clearly in love with Ellen.
