Chelmsford Indoor Field Hockey Undefeated in Spring League
The Chelmsford Indoor Field Hockey team won their first three games in the Acton Teamworks High School Spring League. The team consists of players in grades 9-12 from all levels of the Chelmsford High field hockey teams. “It’s great to have players from our varsity and JV teams all playing together,” said Delaney Gembis, one of the CHS 2013 varsity captains. “The varsity players are taking a
leading role and giving guidance on the field, and the younger players have been really impressive.”
The Chelmsford team had a strong season opener against Bromfield winning the game 7-1. Chelmsford goals were scored by Madison Dallmeyer (2), Kelly McDonough (2), Nardina Serra (1), Nicole Harrison (1) and Sam Benoit (1). Offensive support came from Jocelyn Dionne and Alison Brown, with solid defensive play from Caroline Millin, Catherine Nestor, Rebecca O’Rourke and Delaney Gembis. Goaltender Alanah Melanson was dominant and had a diving save that drew cheers from the bench and the crowd.
In Week 2 Chelmsford beat Groton-Dunstable by a score of 9-0 with Chelmsford goals coming from Erin Duffy (2), Kelly McDonough (2), Nicole Harrison (2), Madison Dallmeyer (2) and Michaela Shaw (1). Strong performances from Nardina Serra, Caroline Millin, Alanah Melanson and Delaney Gembis secured the shutout for Chelmsford. Sam Benoit, Rebecca O’Rourke, and Catherine Nestor delivered great support in the backfield.
Chelmsford went on to defeat Westford 9-3 in the third week of play to claim first place in the league standings. Madison Dallmeyer led Chelmsford’s offense (4 goals) with additional scoring from Nicole Harrison, Alison Brown, Michaela Shaw, Kelly McDonough and Erin Duffy all with one goal each. Nardina Serra and Jocelyn Dionne provided offensive strength, while Chelmsford’s defensive team had an impressive showing from Delaney Gembis, Catherine Nestor, Rebecca O’Rourke, Sam Benoit and goaltender Alanah Melanson.
